Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo)

At First Steps Together, we take pride in ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) plays a pivotal role in making this vision a reality.

The SENDCo leads our efforts to provide tailored support for students with additional needs, ensuring that every young person can access a high-quality education and achieve their full potential. With a compassionate, collaborative, and proactive approach, the SENDCo oversees the following key areas:

1. Identifying Needs: Our SENDCo works closely with staff, families, and external professionals to identify the unique needs of each student. Using a range of assessments and ongoing observations, we strive to develop an in-depth understanding of every learner.

2. Personalised Support Plans: Once needs are identified, our SENDCo coordinates the creation and implementation of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and strategies that are designed to address each student's specific requirements. These plans are regularly reviewed and adapted to reflect progress and changing needs.

3. Collaboration with Families and Professionals: We understand the importance of working hand-in-hand with families and external agencies. The SENDCo acts as a vital bridge, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration with therapists, specialists, and other professionals involved in a student's care.

4. Staff Training and Development: To ensure the best outcomes for our students, the SENDCo provides ongoing training and support for all school staff. This includes guidance on best practices, new approaches, and tools to help meet the diverse needs of our learners.

5. Advocacy and Empowerment: Our SENDCo is a passionate advocate for students with special educational needs and disabilities, championing their rights and aspirations. The role involves empowering students to develop confidence, independence, and resilience as they progress throughout their educational journey.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss how we support students with additional needs, please don't hesitate to get in touch with our SENDCo. Together, we can create a supportive and inclusive environment where every young person can shine.
